coop.jpg - piece entitled 'thankyou co-op and goodnight'
This piece explores the depths of experience often found within surprising environments. The co-op cafe gives the viewer a vehicle within which to uncover lost notions of gravy and often relationships - over the counter if you will with peoples of older generations (depicted by the brown). We are thrown into unscrambling the ideals of a generation to which lino was 'hot' and fish was 'cool'. A place that perhaps our collective unconcious can steep in the romance of a good stew and remain true to the sinful but simple stocking.
picture.jpg - piece entitled '2 hr lack of service'
Shocking in it's reverence, brilliant in it's blueyishness - this piece forces us to say aloud 'fuck me - i've shat meself'. Hands, the tools that separate us from mere beasts. But here they remind us of the sinister side of hands - those of murderers, masterbaters and of course the technicians who work for the photo processing department of Boots stores. 'Is this alright sir?' are the words often summoned by such devils but Craig shows us the lighter side of evil and hints at the humor of pain by insinuating that the reply may be 'no, actualy i'm half left'. This comical side to the image is paradigmatic and allows us to go home at night and sleep soundly.
no37.jpg - piece entitled 'no37'
A cheeky reference to the varieties of heinz products available. But wait - 'aren't there 57?' Oh yes, something is wrong. Craig plays with us here like posting dogs doo wrapped in newspaper on fire through someones letterbox. Lulled into a flase sense of security with the sumptuous use of the purple we are faced with a conundrum of desasterous consequences that brings Britishness to the table of discussion only to find that the table is not level but supported by a small piece of folded paper under one leg. Oh how we have been fooled - The art world as a spirit level, but how do we regain our decency when not only does the grey remind us that we are not all middle class white males but some of us are shy retiring homosexual pixies with fluffy hair - and what's wrong with that? That is simply left in the hand of the viewer - very clever.
